It started with a love for Sherry.
It started because a couple friends wanted a place they could be comfortable sipping wines at a reasonable price.
The Scout is three friends, coming together to make a tiny place in Gresham their own.

Cassondra Bird
Cassondra fell in love with wine while living in Spain, and pursued wine knowledge during a two-decade career in service. A Certified Sommelier, Cassondra holds a WSET Diploma and a Master's degree in writing (she and Matt met in grad school). She joined the team and co-founded The Scout because she wanted there to be an easy place to enjoy a well-made glass of wine, for anyone. No overwhelm, no out of place. In between wine tastings, Cassondra spends all her time with her dog.

Matt Robinson
Matt came to wine, and co-founding The Scout, through his love of fortifieds (Byrrh is his current favorite). His love for all things outdoors and his detestment of all things snobby combined to help create a space where great wines, beers, and ciders can be "scouted" and brought back to the shop to be enjoyed with friends, family, and strangers in a setting that celebrates the Pacific Northwest. When not at the shop, Matt writes fiction, keeps bees with Brandon, collects old books, and sometimes reads them. (Left above, with our fourth partner Diesel Robinson)

Brandon Smith
An avid hiker, Army veteran, and Oregon native, Brandon co-founded The Scout out of his adventurous spirit and penchant for bold reds. He aims to make The Scout a place where adventurers of all kinds come to compare stories, and chess strategy, over a glass of wine. Outside the shop, Brandon can be found camping and hiking in the PNW, or tending his bees.

The selection, featuring a wide array of bottles from across the globe, was curated by Cassondra Bird, who is the wine expert among the owners. She is a sommelier who has years of experience in the industry. Opened in 2024, this wine bar looks and feels like the sitting room at your grandparents’ house, decorated with antiques and upcycled furniture, and well stocked with books and games. The bathroom is a charming detour to the dark side of Victoriana, complete with a cabinet of “dark academia” curiosities.
